It’s Minnesota for the win. The North Star State was consistently in the top tier for highest median earnings, lowest percentage of women in poverty, highest high school graduation rate, lowest female uninsured rate, and highest women’s life expectancy at birth. All of these data points helped make it the best overall state for women. Minnesota Massachusetts Vermont North Dakota Wisconsin Maine Hawaii Connecticut Iowa New Hampshire The South dominates the bottomAs for which states fared the worst Alabama, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana came in 47th through 51st respectively.Mississippi had the highest percentage of women in poverty and South Dakota had the lowest percentage of women-owned businesses.Nevada had the lowest high school graduation rate for women and be careful in Louisiana, Nevada, Tennessee, and Alaska, which were all tied for the highest female homicide rates.D.C. women highest paid, most unemployedSome other notable data points included  Washington, D.C. (which is closing the pay-gap in certain sectors)  having the highest  median earnings for female workers at  $32,355 - two times more than Hawaii, which was lowest at $16,843 - but they also had the highest unemployment rate. Interestingly, Alaska had the highest  share of women-owned businesses at  22.87 percent, 1.6 times higher than in South Dakota, which has the lowest at 14.04 percent.
