(which is closing the pay-gap in certain sectors)  having the highest  median earnings for female workers at  $32,355 - two times more than Hawaii, which was lowest at $16,843 - but they also had the highest unemployment rate. Interestingly, Alaska had the highest  share of women-owned businesses at  22.87 percent, 1.6 times higher than in South Dakota, which has the lowest at 14.04 percent.

I’m a pretty insecure person and can easily get jealous of what other people are doing. And I wanted to know if I was the only one who did that.I received a lot of interesting responses.One person told me to pray more. Another person told me to unfriend everyone. But one person said this:Just remember that everyone deep down just wants to feel loved and important. Anything you see stems from that.I loved that, because that’s what I want. To feel loved and important. And usually, I feel pretty good about my life - my goals, my dreams, my accomplishments - until I see someone doing better than me.I know not everyone is this way, but I am. It’s a sickness, I think - this fear of missing out, the comparison trap we o ften find ourselves in.But it doesn’t have to be this way.Sure, ignoring people helps some of the time. But sometimes, it’s just hard to ignore everyone all the time.About a year ago, I learned a crucial lesson. I was drowning in stress and overcome with resentment about my situation. On the outside, I looked like I was winning: I had a seven-figure business, a bestselling book, and hundreds of thousands of fans. But inside, I was miserable.All I could think about was what I wasn’t doing. What I wasn’t achieving. What I had to yet to do. And it was eating me up inside.A number of people helped me get out of that funk, and I detail all of it  here in this article.I am now a lot healthier and happier. But I can still drift into the comparison mode and find myself not enjoying what I’m doing.There’s one simple phrase that I’ve held onto all this time. It was given to me by a friend who was desperately trying to beat everyone around him in a marathon (like, a literal marat hon), and one of the people he was running beside shouted at him:Run your own race.That’s become a sort of mantra for me. I don’t have to compare myself to other people, because we are all playing different games. That’s the fun part. We get to  choose the games we play, the crafts we want to master.When I hear a friend sharing about his biggest month ever, I can quietly tell myself: “Run your own race.”When I see someone’s highlight reel on Facebook, I don’t have to be mad or assume they’re lying. I can just remind myself that this is not my life. What someone else is doing has no bearing on what I do. That’s their race. I need to run my own.And when I worry about not doing enough and really not being enough, I can quietly say to myself:This is your race. Run it well.Because, really, that’s what we all want, isn’t it? How to Ask for Resume Feedback How to Ask for Resume Feedback Sometimes when I finish a resume for a client, he or she seeks feedback from other people they respect. Often the information that comes back is valuable and helps me improve the resume, but sometimes its actually harmful. The difference is in how the feedback request is worded. The Right and Wrong Way to Ask for Feedback If you ask friends and co-workers and former managers to critique your resume, thats exactly what theyll do. Theyll suggest changing this or that word, disagree with the structure, recommend a different font and most of their comments will disagree with the comments you get from the next person, who likes the font you chose, but dislikes the word change you made at the request of the first person. In the end, you wind up confused, slightly irritable and with a resume that resembles the proverbial camel (a horse made by committee). No, asking for a general critique is generally a bad idea. In my experience, the best way to solicit feedback is to ask people who have worked closely with you: does this resume accurately represent what I have accomplished? Sometimes, youll find that co-workers will say No! You didnt even mention X project! or you didnt say that you know C++ and youll realize that they are right. So the key is to keep the request specific and focused on whether the resume accurately represents your strengths and accomplishments. This will give you the right information to make improvements. Who Should You Ask? Many resume services offer a free critique, but this is not the best way to find out how effective your resume is because obviously the resume service would like to sell you a new resume, so you cant be sure of their motives. I also recommend staying away from recruiters. Yes they look at resumes for a living, but this is the problem. They have their own objectives and those objectives are not the same as yours. Also, recruiters tend to be incredibly jaded when it comes to reading resumes (they see too many of them!) and may therefore tell you not to do something that would actually have been the one thing that would have impressed a hiring manager. Friends and family are another no-no, even if some of them actually make hiring decisions. They have not worked with you and they do not know your industry, therefore any feedback they give has to be taken with a pile of salt. For the best feedback, I recommend asking those who have worked with you especially managers, former managers or colleagues who have hiring authority. They know you, they know your field and they know what managers are looking for when they read a resume. So, my recommendations for seeking resume feedback are: 1) Only ask people who have worked with you. 2) Do not ask them to critique your resume instead ask the specific question does my resume accurately represent my skills and accomplishments?
